Partnering with Bank of America for a “Golf with Us” event was an incredible way to bring people together and put the finishing touch on Frederick Douglass Golf Course’s 100-year celebration.
Throughout the day, kids had the opportunity to learn, play, make new friends and experience the golf through different activities and stations alongside some amazing mentors and volunteers.
Groups from the Indianapolis Boys and Girls Club, 100 Black Men of Indianapolis and Edna Martin Community Center had lessons and played games with First Tee coaches, Indiana Golf staff and PGA Professionals.
We welcomed Tamika Catchings and Jeff Saturday as special speakers, along with one of the greatest golfers of all time, Annika Sörenstam. With 72 LPGA Tour victories and 10 major championships, Annika gave our young golfers the opportunity to learn from a true legend of the game.
The day ended with First Tee families playing a 3-hole scramble tournament. Over 400 families visited the Frederick Douglass for the day of golf. Our volunteers had a wonderful time, and judging by the smiles, the kids had an even better one.
