Levi Gustine at the Pure Insurance Championship
There are some experiences that remind us of what makes First Tee special. Michiana teen Levi Gustine and Michiana Area Director Jenny Zimmerman had one of those in September. Levi was selected to represent First Tee-Indiana in the PURE Insurance Championship Impacting First Tee. This tournament, held at Pebble Beach Golf Links and Spyglass Hill Golf Course, paired First Tee teens with PGA TOUR Champions players in a week of mentorship, learning, and competition. Levi was paired with Indiana native Bo Van Pelt for four magical rounds of golf. In addition to his partner Bo, Levi had the once-in-a-lifetime experience of playing with Indy 500 Champion Danny Sullivan,GA TOUR Champions players Woody Austin, Esteban Toledo, and Notah Begay, and successful business leaders from 3M, Hudsonville Ice Cream, Oracle, Broadcom, and Berto. It truly was a week that reminded us of the connections golf can make.
Before the tournament began, there were contests and activities that allowed the 80 First Tee participants to meet and get to know each other. During the Closest to the Pin contest, Levi finished 3rd and earned a monetary prize from Chevron for his chapter! Coach Jenny traveled to California to support Levi and remarked “I couldn’t help but feel proud watching him represent First Tee and our Michiana community. We came home with wonderful memories, new friendships, plenty of photographs and a few stories we’ll undoubtedly be telling for years. More importantly, we came home with another reminder that the opportunities First Tee provides our young people reach well beyond golf.”
