Our First Tee National Headquarters selects individuals from across First Tee Chapters to attend a variety of educational and leadership opportunities each year. These events often become life-changing experiences for our teens as they further develop an awareness of the possibilities that surround them. The following Indiana participants were chosen to attend two of these amazing events. Read about their experience below:
First Tee Game Changers Academy, Minnesota.
First Tee Game Changers Academy is a transformative five-day learning and empowerment experience. Selected teens from across the U.S. will engage in meaningful discussions on self-awareness, inclusive leadership, and community building – skills they will carry with them throughout their lives.

“This opportunity helped me to come out of my shell even more than I already have. By the end of the week I had met so many new people! My biggest takeaway was that golf isn’t all about competition and lowering your score, it’s about learning how to grow as an individual.”
Camille Powell
“This opportunity changed me by broadening my perspectives on leadership! My biggest takeaway is probably positive self-talk, because I can be very negative out on the course if I’m not doing as well as I’d wish, which can hurt my overall mindset. However, positive self-talk can help alleviate that, and the great thing about positive self-talk is that it can be utilized outside of golf.”
First Tee Leadership Summit, Montana.
Set in the unforgettable backdrop of West Creek Ranch in Montana, each teen is challenged to build on their current strengths and values in an intimate setting which provides community building, inspiration and connection with their peers, adult mentors, and the outdoors.

“My favorite part was being able to connect and learn from and with my peers new and different ways to face challenges. My biggest take away was the “Influence is more powerful an authority. I will turn every missed or lost opportunity into a lesson and learn how to become better from those mistakes. I would say that this national opportunity is extremely eye opening and will make people look at the world from different and new perspectives.”
